Design and Technology
If you can think it, you can do it. Design Technology unlocks a whole new world of possibilities.
What does DT mean to Castle Hill?
Design and technology at Castle Hill is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Design and Technology prepares children to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies. Within DT children are able to: explore design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials through problem solving. Through the study of Design and Technology, the children combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues, as well as functions and industry. This allows them to reflect on and evaluate past and present technology and it’s uses and impacts. The children will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
"Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you look deeper, it's really how it works."
Steve Jobs - Co-Founder of Apple
"I made 5,127 prototypes of my vacuum before I got it right. There were 5.126 previous versions that could be classed as failures. But I learned from each one. That’s how I came up with a solution.”
James Dyson - Inventor of the Dyson Vacuum
