Other Information
Please find below a range of information, guidance and advice on a variety of subjects. You can click on a heading to get to a particular subject, or scroll down the page to view all the topics.
First Aid
We have staff who hold first aid certificates and who can help children who are unwell or hurt. If we have any concerns about your child we will contact you.
Back to listIllness and Accidents
Please do not send your child to school if they are ill. This can be very upsetting for the child. If your child has sickness or diarrhoea we ask you to keep them away from school for at least the next 48 hours.
Accidents can happen and although we have first aiders who can deal with minor cuts and bruises we prefer to contact you and to seek specialist help for more serious accidents. It is most important therefore that you leave up to date emergency phone numbers with us in case we need to contact you quickly if your child is unwell or has an accident.
Back to listMedical Issues
Contact is maintained with the School Health Service, who can advise parents individually on any health issues. Please contact the School Office if you wish to make an appointment with the service at any time.
Routine medicals will no longer be held for all children but parents may request an appointment with the school doctor.
The School Dental Service do carry out routine checks from time to time, you will be contacted prior to the inspection and given the opportunity to have your child removed from the inspection list if you so wish.
As inspections for head lice no longer take place we ask that you regularly check your child's hair. Unfortunately this is a common problem in all schools, particularly as head lice prefer clean hair! Leaflets on treatment can be obtained from the School Office. If a case of head lice occurs in a class, all the parents of children in the class will be requested (by means of a note home) to check and, if necessary, treat their child's hair. We will also let individual parents know if we think their child is infected and advise on treatment.
Back to listMedication
All medicines and inhalers must be taken to the School Office and should be clearly named and labeled with instructions. We are legally only allowed to administer prescribed medicines. All medication is administered by staff who hold First Aid qualifications. There are fully qualified First Aiders in school and other staff members have had basic first aid training. First Aid boxes are located in the School Office and the Nursery.
Back to listLunchtime
Children who stay at school for the whole day can either purchase a hot or cold meal or bring a packed lunch. As Health Education is part of our curriculum we ask you to ensure that your child has a healthy balanced lunch and drink.
There are two sittings for lunch, with Reception children going to the first sitting in the Autumn Term. We have an experienced team of mid-day supervisors who care for the children at lunchtime.
Information on free school meals (FSM) can be obtained from the School Office or from the Guildhall (Tel: 020 8547 5251). The RBK website has details on eligibility for FSM and a downloadable application form.

Back to listPlaytimes
The children are supervised in the playground by members of staff at the morning and afternoon break times and at lunchtimes by the mid-day supervisors. Our outside climbing apparatus has safety surfaces. All apparatus is checked on an annual basis through the Local Authority.
For safety reasons and to comply with the Local Education Authority recommendations, children are only allowed on the apparatus when supervised by a member of staff. Please do not let your child play on the apparatus before or after school.
The playground markings and special playtime equipment encourage the children to play games and the quiet area provides seating for children who wish to play quieter games or talk. When the weather is fine the children are also able to play on the grass.
Outside play for Foundation Stage children is an important part of their planned curriculum and takes place every day.
Back to listDrinks
In addition to a drink for lunchtime (which should be in a named plastic flask) we also request that each child brings in a named plastic bottle of water to drink in class time, this should have a sports top.
Back to listFruit
Every morning each child in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be given a piece of fresh fruit as part of the School Fruit Scheme. The letter in the link below explains about the National School Fruit Scheme for Reception to Year 2 children and includes a permission form for you to sign.

Lost Property
Please let us know as soon as possible if your child has lost or mislaid anything. Any lost property that is un-named is placed in a box near the School Office.
Please name everything to avoid loss. We ask the children not to bring toys, cards etc., to school in case they are lost or broken. We are asked to inform parents that the Local Authority cannot accept liability for the theft of, or malicious damage to, any item of personal property left on the premises.
Back to listAbsence from School
Should your child be absent from school we ask that you contact the school on the first day giving a reason. A representative of the school will call you if we do not hear from you.
We ask parents to take holidays in school holiday times to avoid disruption to learning.
If a situation arises where it is unavoidable to take your child out of school in term time, 'Leave of Absence' request forms are available from the School Office (and from the link below). Requests are considered by the Headteacher on an individual basis.

Appointments during the school day
We ask parents to make appointments out of school time, but realise that this is not always possible. If you have to collect your child from school for an appointment for medical or dental treatment, please let us know in advance in writing ('appointment forms' are available from the School Office and the link below). On the day of the appointment please call at the School Office to meet your child. Nursery children should also be collected from the main entrance.

Attendance and Punctuality
Attendance at school is a legal requirement unless your child is sick or has obtained special permission from the Headteacher.
It is of vital importance that your child attends regularly and is on time. This is one of the most effective ways you can support your child's education and help them make good progress. Children who miss a lot of school or who are consistently late are at a disadvantage.
We monitor absence and lateness very closely, working with the Education Welfare Service.
It is also very important for your child's feelings of confidence and security that he or she is collected on time at the end of the day.
Back to listCharging and Remission Policy
The Governors have adopted the Local Authority's charging and remission policy. They have agreed to authorise the Headteacher to seek payment for breakages etc., in conjunction with the school's code of discipline.
Contributions are requested from parents to cover class visits or special events, but are voluntary.
There is a voluntary school fund to which parents are asked to contribute. This is used to provide additional resources for the curriculum such as books. The guidelines are £20 for each child or £30 for a family for each school year.
Back to listCommunity Links
The school welcomes visitors from the local community. In particular we have strong links with the local community police officers, local church ministers, the adult education service and health and other agencies.
The children also visit places in the locality such as the library, station, local churches and shops.
We like to encourage our children to have a concern for others and regular collections are held with proceeds going to local and national charities. Children also contribute to local events e.g. carol singing. Links with local businesses such as Chessington Garden Centre are also being developed.
Back to listJewellery
The Governors have adopted the Local Authority's policy that jewellery, including earrings and studs, should not be worn in school for health and safety reasons. Watches are allowed only for KS2 children.
Back to listMobile Phones
Children are NOT allowed to bring mobile phones to school.
Back to listSending Messages
We try to send messages to you either by letter or by telephone. Please send your messages to us in the same way, as young children, especially, cannot always be relied upon to carry verbal messages correctly.
Back to listSports and Clubs
The children are given the opportunity to attend a range of clubs and can participate in country dancing, chess, music, choir, library, dance and drama as well as football and cricket coaching. Most clubs take place at lunchtime, but some are after school.
