Homework
Homework is set regularly throughout the school, the expectations and the amount increasing as your child moves up the school. Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child's work at home and to support them. Each term we send you a copy of the topic plan for your child's year group together with suggestions for ways in which you can help at home.
Through our home reading scheme your child will bring home books each week to share with you.
In the Reception year children may bring home words to practice for reading and suggested mathematical activities.
In Year 1 the children may bring home key words to learn to spell and mathematical activities.
In Year 2 children are given spellings to take home and learn each week - with tests in school to monitor their learning. They also take home mathematical activities. In the Summer they complete a project about a 'famous person' with work done both at home and at school.
In Years 3 to 6 homework encourages the children to continue to develop good work habits, independent study skills, self-discipline and a self-motivating attitude to study. Homework also allows them to practice and reinforce skills learned in the classroom and consolidate and extend work begun with teachers in class. Children may also enhance their study by making greater use of materials and sources of information that may not be available in the classroom.
