National Young Mathematicians Competition
We took a team of four Year 6 children to the Young Mathematicians competition. Here they reflect on the competition, both before and after the event, and offer some advice to teams following in their footsteps in future years.
The children all across the school have been fully immersed in maths this week. Our problem solving workshop for the children has been fantastic and the children have enjoyed completing the challenging tasks. All of the children used their MAGIC habits to help them solve the problems.
The children all across the school have been fully immersed in maths this week. Our workshop for parents on Tuesday had a fantastic turnout and the children loved showing their grown-ups how they learn in class. If you were not able to make it here are some pictures of the day:
On Friday 26th September Castle Hill Primary School held a coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. On behalf of Castle Hill and all members of staff we would like to thank everyone who donated cakes and joined us for the children's performances, the event was a huge success. Your generous donations coupled with the money raised from the cake sale has enabled us to raise over £500. With one more cake sale pending we hope to add to our already impressive total. Thank you.
Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 country dancers performed at the Country Dancing Festival at Kingsmedow Athletics ground on Friday 3rd July. The children performed 4 dances in their key stages and 2 whole group dances. The final dance of the festival was performed by the children and their parents and carers. The children peformed brilliantly and were a credit to the school!

On Tuesday the 30th June, Castle Hill held its annual sports day. Despite it being one of the hottest days of the year so far, all the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and had a great time participating in all the activities. All the children were great at cheering on their Castle's and showed great team spirit!
Castle Hill Sports Day
On Wednesday 24th June some of Castle Hill’s finest athletes pitted themselves against the teachers in a hard fought netball match. With the teachers feeling confident, the Year 6 netball team were out to prove a point! The match started quickly and with some fast passing and accurate shooting the teachers were soon in the lead. Not letting themselves become down hearted, some super play and accurate shooting from Kai saw the Year 6 team score 2 quick goals. At half time a rather happy (but tired) staff were pleased to be 6-2 up. After some much needed substitutions (to give the teachers a rest) the game got back under way. Following a big pep talk from Mrs Williams, the Year 6 team came back with a vengeance. With speedy play and excellent movement, they literally had the teachers running in circles which saw some quick goals scored in succession. With some rousing encouragement/shouting from Mrs Stirrat, the teachers got their heads in the game and the match became incredibly close, with goals being scored left right and centre. After another hard fought 15 minutes, the game ended in a well deserved 10-10 draw. The gumption and determination shown by the netball team resulted in them very nearly beating a team of adults! They were a credit to themselves and all the hard work and training that they have put in this year. As disappointed as the teachers were not to win (particularly Mrs Stirrat), they were all incredibly proud of the effort the netball team put in and the amazing team work that they all showed. We all look forward to the next match......watch this space!

Here are a few pictures from Year 3's recent camping trip. We had great fun exploring the outdoors, den building, caving, cooking our own lunch on the bonfire and getting very muddy completing the assault course. There are lot's more photo's of our trip that we will let you know how to access soon!
